This week in our 'Get to Know the ME Team' series, the spotlight is on the very talented Luc Berkefeld, Marketing Manager at Medieval Empires as we talk about his personal and professional experiences in a candid conversation!
What inspired you to join Medieval Empires? How did you get involved?
I worked in the German army for 15 years before jumping into marketing. Even though I loved being in the army, I knew I wanted to do something different eventually. I had always been a big fan of social media and was very intrigued by bitcoin when it first came out. And with my experience as a Press Officer and a Platoon Leader in the army, I had a solid foundation for management already. Therefore, marketing seemed to be the natural choice. So when my brother Jan reached out to me to work with Medieval Empires, everything kind of fell into place - gaming, crypto, blockchain, marketing!
Tell us a bit about what you do in Medieval Empires team?
Basically everything. 😀 Keeping track of social media, posting and scheduling, ideas on what to improve, coordinate with partners such as Polygon and Nefta, guilds etc. I am also the Lead Community Manager so I coordinate with all the community managers, take care of Discord, giveaways, and a lot of side tasks like listings on CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko and I do a lot of AMAs!

What do you think is the most important thing to keep in mind when marketing a web3 project?
The community. It is key, updating the community about progress, you have to be transparent. Show what you do and take them along with you on the journey!

What is the best part about working with Medieval Empires?
Remote working. And the theme of the game, the medieval setting, fighting, armor. And I also love seeing the project from being an idea to soon a final project! Being involved in the whole journey, it is very exciting!
Biggest misconception about your designation?
People think I am selling stuff, like tokens. Or doing commercials. Marketing is a combination of a lot of functions!

What’s your all-time favorite old/war movie and why?
Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Troy, Braveheart – four top movies for me. I have watched all of them at least 10 times. When I don’t know what to watch, these 4 are what I count on. Â
