Team Medieval Empires

Medieval Empires has been crafted by a highly experienced and skilled team from the gaming industry, ensuring that our community receives an unparalleled gaming experience. As we approach the early access version of the game, we want to introduce the man behind it all - our talented Executive Game Producer, Qing Guan.

Qing was born in China and is currently based in Germany.

What inspired you to join Medieval Empires?

It was a combination of different factors. The project idea itself is very unique and new. I have worked in the western gaming industry, and this was quite different. Additionally, Medieval Empires is anchored in a different culture, which is very interesting to me. I am also interested in history, so this geographical area in medieval times, with its mix of cultures, was very intriguing to me.

Another reason for me joining was the people here in the team. I first met Mortiz and then Assad, who was very charming. So that became one of the main reasons for me joining.

Also, Blockchain gaming itself is a very intriguing genre for me.

Tell us a bit about what you do on the Medieval Empires team.

As the Executive Producer, I work on a number of processes, from the finer details such as defining small features, user experience, specific steps, etc., to the higher level of the product roadmap and the vision of the game. Of course, this is a collaborative effort involving all departments.

And since we are a startup, there is a lot of initial defining of processes on what to do and how to do it.

Qing is a big fan of travelling

Can you share a bit about your past experiences?

I started as a QA in mobile applications before the smartphone era. Then I worked in an online casino and there I moved into the scrum master role and eventually team lead. Later, I joined King and worked on Candy Crush, where I was the Agile Coach and Game Producer, eventually leading me to my role here in Medieval Empires.

What’s your favorite video game? Or what was the last video game you played?

Currently, my favorite game is Age of Empires 4. I also recently played God of War and really enjoyed it.

What is the process that goes into producing a game like Medieval Empires?

It's a very interesting process actually. We are not developing Medieval Empires in a traditional way. In traditional gaming, you need to have many things already developed and settled, sketched out, designed, etc. But with blockchain gaming, it's different. You need to pitch ideas to the community and listen to their feedback, but you also need to be very fast. So, the agile approach makes more sense. It's like an upward spiral kind of development.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I love to sleep! And I play games too much!

If you were in medieval times, what character would you be, and why?

I would want to be born as a rich artist or creative person. 😀 The idea is to have all the time and money to be creative and explore the world without worrying about making a living!

What is the best part about working with Medieval Empires?

It’s a lot of learning for me, as the way of developing this game is very different. So, we need to learn and discover. The other thing is blockchain, not only the technology but the entire ecosystem, how this entire thing operates, communications, marketing development. One of the best parts for me is the team I work with, my fellows in the leadership team, my own team members in the game team, marketing team, and so on.

And one of the most humbling things for me has been working with our contractors in war-affected areas like Ukraine. The amount of effort they have put in shows the high level of professionalism and how enduring people can be. That kind of thing humbles you.

Biggest misconception about your designation?

The biggest one is that people don’t know what producers do! 😀

It is actually different in every industry, every kind of game. Traditional game development producers are different, and in some cases producers are like project managers. Depends on the kind of project you are in really.

What’s your all-time favorite old/war movie and why?

Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan. I like war movies that show the cruel realities of war. These movies kind of take you right into the middle of the war zone and you get to see how brutal it is!

Your favorite pastime/hobby?

Bouldering.

Qing loves to go bouldering!

What’s your one hidden talent?

I can remember faces very well! 😀

Your colleagues in 3 words?

Diligent, professional and friendly.

What updates should the community look forward to in terms of game development?

The most exciting thing our community can look forward to right now is the first early access version we have coming up for the landowners, and also the second early access version for token holders in a few months. The biggest thing to look forward to, however, would have to be the open access to the game, when all of our community will be able to see the game. And our entire team is working hard towards that goal!

So there you have it - Qing Guan, our Executive Game Producer! Stay tuned for more exciting interviews with the Medieval Empires team!
